About

The Old Lodge sits in ten acres of varied broadleaf woodland, a trout stream, a meadow and mature landscaped gardens in Norfolk's West Bilney.

This unique property has history entwined with the Victorian age of land ownership, country life and agricultural poverty and reform. In the 1890s Frederick Rolf lived here whilst game keeper to West Bilney Estate, known as The King of the Norfolk Poachers, Rolf's life history was published with the help of Lilias Rider Haggard in the acclaimed 'I Walked by Night'.

Since April 2021 The Old Lodge has become the home and project of the Crocker family, current custodians of a rather special place.  We highlight our lives here through this website and the photography of Gareth Crocker ARPS.
