The life story, written by himself, of a famous Norfolk Poacher who in his day played many parts, house boy, shepherd, horse-breaker, mill hand, gamekeeper, and rat-catcher to the troops! From the time when, as a child, he went to prison and the tread-mill for snaring a rabbit, he lived, except for short intervals, "agin the law." The book is a wonderfull insight into a time  that is past, the day of child labour and wise women, of smugglers and transportation. He tells the secrets of his trade, for he says - "It don't matter now, I can't play the game no more."
